Facebook Timeline: Is it beneficial for all?

A new feature added to our dear Facebook that has brought vigor to this already bubbling networking website. It can be considered as another innovation by world no. 2 site or it can be considered as a new feature that will increase engagement of Facebook users or an exciting feature that will give room to the users to express themselves more. Let’s look at both the sides of the coin one by one.Consider:

Timeline is a great feature

It provides an opportunity to share the course of life and that can be a huge database of a user’s journey of life. Any interested friend can ponder on the life of a person and can try to understand a person’s growth or decline. We connect more and we develop more through learning and getting inspired from our own friends’ life course. The cover page gives you a feeling that it’s your own website’s face: more than just a profile page. It’s a great example of space optimization too. The new page shows lot too many elements in one go. The double column style is an optimum use of space obviously. Hence, timeline can be considered as a notable innovation for the benefit of users by Facebook.

Timeline is just a new engaging element

We spend hours to make a presentable display of our life course and we try to keep meaningful photos of different phases of life to connect the dots of or life path. This indeed is a great thing to do and share but do we really have the viewers for our sharing. Do people actually spend that much time to check your whole life course through photos? Is it that important that we tell our online network what all we have done and how we have moved to what are we now? Then comes the question that if Facebook has made it then there must be something meaningful. Indeed there is a meaning. Facebook will get a user that is now more engaged to keep his/her timeline updated and who will keep checking the life’s course.

It is an innovation, no doubt about it. But how much beneficial and to whom, let’s leave it to the users to decide what’s the reality?
